Pencils are useful for jotting down information or notes. The additional advantage of pencils are you can easily erase any writing. Pencils have a long history and have been in existence for a long time. The evolution of pencils includes simple wooden varieties to modern decorative pencils.
The decorative pencils are attractive writing accessories that can be given away as presents. You can make a package of pencils, erasers and chocolates and give these away as return gifts for your child's birthday party. Ornamented pencils include animated cartoon character pencils, colorful pencils and pencils with bells attached at the base.
The most popular variety of pencils are lead pencils with a wooden outer shell. Even though we call it lead, the material is actually a mixture of graphite and clay. Graphite is a form of carbon. The credit for developing the “lead” of a pencil goes to French chemist Nicholas Jacques Conte. The oldest known pencil is part of the collection of Faber castle, a pencil manufacturing company. This pencil is a carpenter's pencil that was found on the rooftop of a 17th century German house. The largest pencil too is a possession of Faber Castle. Nearly 65 feet in height this is enclosed in a glass covering.
Triangular pencils with flower motifs, wooden pencils with easter bunnies, pencil with beautiful wooden carvings are some example of decorative pencils. In Japan pencils have been carved and twisted into chainlike structure. There are also polygonal varieties of pencils available in the market. Some pencils come with an eraser at the base. So you can write and erase out with the same thing.
Plastic decorative pencils are quiet popular. This does not require for you to sharpen when the lead goes blunt. There are small plastic cylindrical things at the tip of which the lead is inserted. The entire length of the pencil is filled with these plastic things stacked, one top of another. When you want to change all you have to do is detach the topmost plastic holder and reinsert it at the base. The nest one with a pointed lead is ready for use. The plastic casing comes in colorful varieties with floral and animal motifs.
There are pencils that do not have a wooden or plastic outer covering These are comprised entirely of lead. These pencils last longer and come with decorative paintings and motifs.
